Willow Myrtle
Willow Myrtle captures the delicate beauty of the plant in an expressive, almost dreamlike interpretation. Against a deep blue-black ground, the fine sprays of flowers appear to float in space, their tiny star-like forms catching the light in soft golds, creams, blush pinks and muted whites.
The elongated leaves are layered with unexpected flashes of turquoise, violet, pink and fresh green, giving the plant a sense of movement and vitality. Rather than describing the willow myrtle botanically, the painting explores its character and presence — the way a seemingly quiet piece of vegetation can hold complexity, colour and life.
There is something joyful and quietly uplifting in the work. The dark ground creates a sense of intimacy, allowing each small flower to emerge like a point of light. Willow Myrtle invites you to slow down and look closely, discovering the delicate details and hidden colour within something that may otherwise be overlooked.
