Summer Fractals

Summer Fractals explores the intricate branching patterns of eucalypts under the intense heat of an Australian summer. Looking closely at the structure of trees, I became fascinated by their fractal nature—the way a single branch divides and divides again, creating complex patterns that are echoed throughout the entire tree.

The familiar eucalyptus landscape is transformed into something more abstract and graphic. Turquoise, charcoal and rose-coloured trunks move across the composition, branching into a network of interconnected forms, while fields of gold and deep blue evoke the intense heat, light and shifting colours of the summer landscape.

The tiny, repeated marks within the foliage contrast with the sweeping branches, creating a tension between order and complexity. The painting is less about depicting a particular tree and more about experiencing the remarkable patterns hidden within the Australian landscape.

There is an energy and warmth in Summer Fractals, but also a sense of contemplation. It invites the viewer to look beyond the familiar image of the eucalyptus and discover the extraordinary complexity that exists within it.
