Silence Under Moonlight

Acrylic on canvas

Silence Under Moonlight captures the quiet transition between dusk and night, where the last traces of evening light give way to the cool glow of the moon. For me this time feels powerful, a transition of time and river life.

Layers of luminous turquoise, deep blue and violet form the eucalyptus foliage, their colour intensified against the dark, still atmosphere. Fine coral branches weave through the leaves, while delicate pale blossoms appear to float within the canopy, catching what little light remains.

Rather than depicting a particular tree or landscape literally, this painting evokes the feeling of standing beside the river at nightfall — when the water is still, the gums become silhouettes and the landscape seems to pause.

Through layered colour, texture and negative space, Silence Under Moonlight explores the beauty found in those fleeting moments of stillness, inviting the viewer to slow down, look closely and become immersed in the quiet of the Australian landscape.
