Among the Blossoms

The colour, shapes and textures in the Australian landscape never ceases to amaze me

Among the Blossoms captures my interpretation of a remembered moment of our natural environment. It’s a celebration of Australian colour and light. Delicate pink and coral blossoms unfold against a brilliant aqua ground, while elongated eucalyptus leaves weave through the composition in layers of turquoise, green, gold and deep teal.

The flowers are both recognisable and expressive, their fine radiating marks giving each bloom an almost luminous quality. There is a wonderful sense of rhythm in the repeated forms, as though the branches are gently moving in a warm summer breeze.

Rather than simply recording the flowers as they appear, the painting celebrates the feeling of encountering them — that small moment of joy when colour and unexpected beauty catch your attention in the landscape.
