Through the trees
This work unfolds as a quiet study of the alpine landscape, structured through four distinct yet interwoven bands: grassland, tree line, ancient tree line and sky. Each layer is suggested through subtle shifts in colour, density and mark-making, guiding the eye gently upward through the terrain.
The lower field of green is alive with fine, vertical gestures, evoking grasses and ground cover, before giving way to a denser middle ground where the tree line begins to gather. Beyond this, a more distant, softened band hints at an older, receding line of vegetation, dissolving into memory and atmosphere. Above, the sky opens into a luminous expanse of blue, calm and expansive.
The painting holds a quiet rhythm, where repetition of mark and tone creates a sense of continuity and stillness. Rather than defining the landscape precisely, it captures the experience of moving through it, where foreground, distance and sky exist in a gentle, layered harmony.
